Sunday - a time for quite

A couple post back I showed you a WIP sketch. Well it is still hasn't gone anywhere from there as I have been pondering colour and background. Today's watercolour painting is attempting a background. From doing the above I learnt that if I wish to get a salt effect I have to really get it in one go or layer, as it does not work well with mutliple layers. What was also reinforced in not to add watercolour pencil to wet paper and then expect it to spread far - it does not move at all! Ahh well live and learn. It was good to paint.
The little bird is actually a digital stamp/ line art I made which I printed rather lightly via my epson printer on watercolour paper, and guess what - the printer ink did not run - cool eh?! :)
May your colours run how you want them and pop on by to  Sophia's Sunday Sketches to see some fab art!
Cheers

This is really sweet and despite the medium working not the way you wished it looks fabulous. Thanks for sharing the process. I tried watercolor once or twice and couldn't stand the unpredictability so really admire those who are willing to work with it.

I really like how the background turned out...textural and a good field against the little birdie! Nice poem too! Happy Sunday Sketches!

I actually like the effect of the colored pencil not blending. I think it adds a little pizzzaz :-)

I love the bird and the prose! I always like pairing words and visual artwork! A nice contrast is achieved with the soft flowing watercolour and the scribbly lines.

Jehanne this is a lovely piece. I love the shades of blue you have used.

I also have learned about using wc pencil on a wet layer. so now if I want more I put my brush to the pencil to get color and then paint it on. I have only used fine salt, it was nice but now I would like to use larger salt crystals and see what happens.

@Tammi, I found some salt used for a salt mill. The sizes are wonderful, the effect is rather cool too :)

Wonderful. It reminds me of that period right before dawn when the birds start chirping sleepily.
