A christmas bear sketch

Been trying to figure out what it was about the sketch that was off besides the mouse and the sled needing to be nudged up a bit , I think I found it - the bear's legs are too thin. :)

A little school bus sketch on a Sunday

On a little mini work break while my parents are in town and catching up on some sketches and such :) Here is a little rough sketch of some kids going to school  for  Sophia's  Sunday Sketches.  Hope you have a great day. :)

P.S Here is a really good link to a guide on facial expression

opps!

This is an illustration I am working on  for a book for young kids that went horribly wrong LOL. It was meant to be a cute happy eager little girl asking the reader a question. However she turned out zealous and a bit scary LOL. When I did a little pick flip between her now and the altered version I almost fell off my stool laughing at how scary she does look. She did not look so scary in the sketches, it is amazing what colour can do. The corrected version is still a WIP.

fabulous and fifty sketch

Hey blog-land it has been a while. Just thought I would post a 5 minute sketch I just did on an idea. It told me I have to go and finish the I heart drawing course. I got a mini holiday coming up so I think I will get to finish my lessons.  Well off to exercise in the hope that when I reach 50 I will be more pear shape than apple LOL.

sketching through the haze

I am beginning to think that my fat cells are attacking my immune system. It seems as if every time I act on losing my poundage I get sick. Just on Thursday morning I started to exercise in the morning and walk in the evening, and wham! today I am heavy headed and fluely. Of course it might not have happened if the little boy who joined us for the walk did not cough his phlegmy cough in my face :)
So I spent today supine and felt  better and did this little sketch for a job application (I guess that is what you could call it), alas I have been up too long and half my head feels like the elephant is on it.
So hoping you are all well and pop by Sophia's  Sunday Sketches to see what the rest are up to. Cheers.

a little ghoul on a Sunday

I decided to revisit this little fella I did a while back as I was not overly happy with his coloured version  and though he would look better in black and white which is great for my B&W section of my yet to be portfolio.  I had not done B&W in ages and boy are they enjoyable and relaxing to do as  I do not have to bother my head over colours.
Hope you have a great day and pop by Sunday Sketches to see what the other artist are up today.
Cheers

working on portolio B&W

I been quite for a while, I know. Life changes have caused me to try to take up illustrating more seriously i.e for money, and amazingly I had a couple of book illustration job over the last 6 weeks, and this morning I finished (I hope) my third book illustration job and have started to work again on my portfolio.  So here is a cute black and white I did. I hemmed and hawed about grounding her with some grass but in end I decided to leave her hanging.
Cheers

A Healthy Creative Tuesday

Well for some reason when I think healthy I think apple and that is what stuck in my head the whole week, so I hope my submission past muster :) . I actually had an apple a couple of days ago and now I am sick LOL. So here is an errant for Mr. T's  topic - creative Tuesday a very healthy apple held by a not so healthy girl :)

out of the pencil on a Sunday

Ahh this is a case of what I thought I wanted to draw and what came out of the pencil not matching up. I had hoped to draw a boy next to a candle. Well technically I guess I did but not the type I would put on a card for my son :)
Hope you have a great Sunday and hop by Sunday Sketches to see what the other artist have been up to this  week.

Creative Tuesday - Thumbprint

Okay this one had me stuck until about an hour ago, and luckily I only realised after I did it, it is foot print and not thumb print ( yikes that says something) LOL. So here is my entry to Mr. T's  topic - creative Tuesday. It's a digital one.  Hope you all had a great Tuesday.

Tuesday and finished I hope

I just wanted to share with you the fished version of the painting. It took much longer than  expected and I came down with the cold yesterday so I hope this is not a drug induced finished :)  In the end I exed the flowers and had to redo the turtle for I end up having him looking like a night turtle and the bird day.  I think I got him day in the end.
Off to bed with a box of tissue.

a head banding morning!

Original
Print

From about 4.30am I have been trying to get my darling printer to print what was shown on the screen. After umpteen sheets of expensive epson archival matte paper, I decided to try to ignore using photoshop setting and work with the printer settings since my printer is obviously not professional enough to work through Adobe:(  Well the end the result was not like the original but workable, I think.
I had planned to do an original art card but alas  I did  the illustration on the wrong side of the paper and the result was it was folding backward.  Ahh it seems to be one of the days LOL.

Thinking of Easter

Just thinking of Easter and preparing and playing with line art which will eventually end up as digital stamps. Here is one which at present a little boy who is at present an ACEO :)  He is coloured with yummy prismapencils blended with turpentine. During the colouring I had to repeat to myself one of the Jane Davenport's mantra - Trust the mess - as the egg was not doing what it was supposed to. In the end it came out okay and I found a use for the newspaper's black ink that likes to come off on my fingers :)
Hope you have a great day :)

Preparing a portfolio on a Sunday

One of things I have had on my to do list for at least 2 years now, which I hope to do over the next couple of weeks is to create an online portfolio. Here is a little Photoshop illustration I did yesterday and in the wee hours of this morning, which I am thinking of using, and yes it is aiming at children's book illustrations.
Below is last week's sketch completed. It was originally conceived for Mr. T's Creative Tuesday  but was not finished in time - it is meant to be a very partial view of a mermaid.
Hope you have a great Sunday and pop by Sophia's Sunday Sketches to see what the others are up to.

a little sketch on Sunday

A little ACEO on Sunday. It is something I am trying to do to incorporate a pattern or patterns in - hmmm... not sure how it will work out but it will be fun :)
It's been blasted cold here, but so far the lambs are walking and bouncing. They are actually soo cute to watch as the take a step and then as if they have to much energy they have give a couple bounces before they can take another step:)
Tailless ewe #41 seems to be fine, and she and the others grow rounder and rounder each day as we get closer to March, which by the way, is when we expect to get lambs LOL
Hope you have a great Sunday and pop by Sophia's Sunday Sketches to see what the others are up to.

Wicked Wednesday ATC Challenge on a Saturday

Been wanting to get back into doing ACEOs for a couple of weeks but as things go things get put aside. But alas as I am sponsoring it and a little birdie reminded me about the topic here is my version of a  little mermaid for the ACT/ACEO challenge at  Wicked Wednesday.
Colour pencil on watercolour with some white gel pen.

Over the weekend I was trying to felt an egg shape with very mixed results :)
This is actually my second egg shape attempt. The first turned out to be a cuboid type rock LOL.
Egg shape attempt #1. Not too egg shapie :)

Shepherd sketches on a Sunday

Wow what a week it has been. Last Sunday night  two lambs were born and then a couple of days after that another one came (thankful it was not another set of twins). The problem with these events is that now that winter has come, it seems to want to make up for all the lost time and the temperature is just dropping and dropping. Now according to the internet grown sheep with their wool can survive up to -40C but lambs get into problems below -10C.  Cool you say insulate the barn, but here's the hitch, a barn has to be well ventilated, if not the sheep might get pneumonia and other nasty ailments. As it is expected to be -30C sometime next week, the barn will drop to -20 or so, I will be heading to Riga to search for a heating lamp or I guess we will have to bring the mama's and babas inside the basement - which will not be as easy as it sound LOL  (hysterically)
In the meantime the night sky is phenominal and the sunrises are spectacular.
So here is a little sheep oriented sketch for Sunday Sketches.

BubbleGum on Creative Tuesday

Bubble gum - hmmm...  watercolour, colourpencil and ink
As I mentioned on Sunday I just finished the Supplies Me! course and in the course I was introduced to colour pencils and fell in LOVE!!! So I splurged and got a set of 132 Prismacolor Premier all the way from the States. They arrived this morning and I used them on the little doodle I did for this weeks Creative Tuesday  Bubblegum, and you know what these pencils are as good as they are reported, they are better than .... ;)
Here is a pic of the pencils  - yumm :)
Have a great day :)

Field full of flowers on a Sunday

I think I finally figured out what art journalling is or rather what it is to me. It is a place or space where I can allow myself to experiment with no thought of producing anything for sale. A space for me to indulge :)
This here is my last piece for the Jane Davenport Supplies me class, which was really cool and educational. This journal page is one of those things where things went wrong, however I do like the flowers in the field.  The main problem I had was the woman's face. The background is acrylic and intially for some reason the colour pencil held on her body, dress and the dog but her face, while it looked great, looked like a spirit - it was translucent.  I was tempted to keep it but quite frankly it spooked me and so I gessoed over the face to give the pencil some more grip, which did happen but it lost the loose whimsical feel that was there in the face and the hair. Oh well c'est la vie.  Pop by Sophia's Sunday Sketches and see what other have been up to.

p.s yes the sheep still lives.

A sweet fairy for Saturday.

For  Sweet Saturdays here's a little wool felted fairy I made this week. Well she could be called a multi media wool felted fairy as she has beads all over her and her wings are made up-cycling stockings ( well it would be up-cycling if I had old stockings LOL ). Hope you have a great Saturday!

A little girl on Sunday

a misty sunday here with a sprinkle of snow. One of the sheep got attacked by a dog - its tail is missing :( Not overly sure what to do. I know what should be done but the large animal vet is many towns ways and it is Sunday  and most farmers deal with these things themselves :( Anyway here is a multi media journal page for Sunday and for Sophia's Sunday Sketchers.

Creative Tuesday - 12 days of Christmas

a partridge in a pear tree
One of the well loved Christmas songs is Mr. T's Creative Tuesday theme i.e the 12 days of Christmas, I opted for what my true love gave to me on the first day of Christmas :) This little ACEO is made with coloured pencils on paper.  Hope you all had a great Christmas and a wonderful start to the new year.

Sunday 1st of 2012

It's Sunday, the first day of the week for some and the  first day of 2012!  It is also time for making  resolutions and rituals. I have not done the latter before with my kids but I think we will do it today - the writing on paper what you want to achieve and the burning of it.. or maybe that was only in Lent. So here is to new beginnings, fresh starts, and I hope some snow. Come on snow you have been missed!
Wishing you all a fantastic 2012 and all the Sunday Sketchers one too.
hugs

p.s this is a mix media journal page with a slightly over textured face - gives her some funny creases :) ignore the writing if you can :)
